The mares of Hazelfield Connemara Pony Stud
Sceilig Fia is our wonderful foundation mare. We bought her in Cork from the family Browne. She was a very expressive eye-catching filly foal with great pony-type and bred from good old bloodlines. During autumn of the year 1993 she came to Belgium to be our first Connemara filly.
We first bred her to Frederiksminde Hazy Match and we were delighted when Cailin of Hazelfield was born. From the very beginning until nowadays Cailin has been very successful. Fia's next foal Duke of Hazelfield is a smaller gelding with great pony type and excellent movement. Erin of Hazelfield then is Fia's stallion son by the well-known multiple supreme champion of England, Spinway Comet.
Another filly by Hazy Match, Gipsy Girl was sold to Holland and became supreme champion at their annual show as a 3-year old. Judy, Fia's last foal until now was sold to Ireland. Fia herself was reserve champion mare at the national Connemara showin 1999. Nowadays Fia is also proving to be an ideal children's pony, being regularly ridden by our sons Glenn and Tom.
She's the kindest pony ever and we hope to enjoy her company for many more years! The success of our stud was built upon Fia and we feel very grateful to own such a wonderful mare. Fia's pedigree
Skippydoe is our oldest Connemara mare and quite a personality. She has done it all! From very good results at in hand shows to excellent performances in show jumping, Skippydoe has proven the versatility of the Connemara breed.
She joined our stud at the age of 3. After being broken she turned out to be a lovely riding pony. As a 4 year old, she was placed fourth at the open European Connemara Pony Show in Aken. In 1997 she was reserve champion mare at our National Show and in 2001 she became champion mare and reserve supreme champion. In the meantime she performed very well in show jumping with her rider Silke Slootmakers and later with Carolien Vanderheyden.
Also her breeding was successful: her filly Candy of Hazelfield by Smokey Playboy was junior champion and also inherited the great jumping ability. She's continuing her sports career in Germany. Last year Skippy had a promising strong filly by our stallion Erin and is now carrying a foal to him again.
CAILIN is a strong grey mare out of SCEILIG FIA by the Danish bred stallion FREDERIKSMINDE HAZY MATCH, from whom she inherited plenty of bone, good movement and the very beautiful and typical expression of the Hazy Dawn progeny. She was born in 1998 and now measures 1.44m.
Her show results were very promising from the start:
She became champion filly with congrajulations by Irish judge Jimmy Canavan, who regretted we didn’t have a foal championship and introduced it the year after.
In 1999 she won the junior championship as a yearling, and again as a three year old.
As a four year old she won her class and became reserve champion mare.
And in 2003 at the age of five she went on to win the mares championship and the supreme championship. What more could one dream of?
As a breeder you might hope that she passes her qualities on to her offspring…
And we believe she is doing so: her first filly by APOLLON PONDI, GENTLE CIARIN OF HAZELFIELD became champion foal, and as a two year old she was junior champion and reserve champion of the show! A remarkable result at that age.
Full brother IRISH BOY OF HAZELFIELD was again champion foal and was approved as a stallion at the age of three. The same day he became reserve champion stallion. He’s a very promising stallion with exceptionnel, very athletic movement. This year Cailin's offspring did incredibly well at our national show : 4-year old Irish Boy became champion stallion and supreme champion of the show, and his full sister Gentle Ciarin stood reserve to him. A breeder's dream come true!
LOREENA OF HAZELFIELD whose father is EL LARRY was born in 2007 and looks a promising filly with lots of expression and lovely type with excellent movement. She was sold to Ireland.
As we are breeding from Cailin only every second year, we are very happy she is again in foal to Appolon Pondi.
Gentle Ciarin of Hazelfield is Cailin’s first filly foal and full sister to Irish Boy. Her sire is the French bred Apollon Pondi, one of the most famous sons of the legendary mare White Granite (by Marble).
Gentle Ciarin won the national foals championship in 2002. As a 2-year old she was youngstock champion and went on to win the reserve supreme championship.
She displays lots of quality, has true pony looks, and extravagant movement.
After having given us a first premium colt foal by the French supreme champion Garryhinch Millrace, she is now being ridden.
At this year's national show, Gentle Ciarin became reserve champion mare and subsequently stood reserve to her full brother Irish Boy in the supreme championship.
